Lisa Ober is a professional portrait artist specializing in pastel and oil
portraits of children, adults and pets. Lisa's work is characterized by an
attention to detail combined with an ability to capture a subject's
personality. She has a love for her portrait work, but when time permits
she enjoys painting other subject matter particularly in the area of still
life painting.
Lisa's interest in art began when she was very young. She spent many
weekends visiting with her grandmother, a self-taught and quite
accomplished portrait artist. At her grandmother's studio Lisa worked
countless hours observing, practicing, and hoping that one day she
could translate her interest into a career. Lisa says, "I never wanted to
be anything other than an artist. As long as I can remember I have had
dreams of having my own studio so I could paint in my pajamas if I was
so inclined. While I do spend hours a day in the studio, being a portrait
artist affords me the opportunity to meet all kinds of interesting people
and I consider it a privilege to be able to paint them."
Painting has been Lisa's full time career for almost 25 years. Born and
reared near St. Louis, Missouri, Lisa began painting portraits
professionally while studying at the Washington University School of
Fine Arts where her focus was Graphic Design and Illustration. Lisa's
professional focus has included paintings of United States Supreme
Court Justices, major league sports figures, corporate executives,
government officials, and private individuals. Her work resides in
private and institutional collections across the U.S. and abroad.
Lisa lives and paints in the St. Louis area with her husband, two
children, and two demanding dogs.
